Former India batting coach Sanjay Bangar picks India’s 15-member ODI World Cup squad. Ahead of the prestigious tournament, India will be participating in the Asia Cup, where teams will look to fine-tune their preparations. Meanwhile, Bangar took this opportunity to announce his preferred World Cup squad.

In his squad, Bangar surprisingly dropped Shardul Thakur and picked left-arm pacer Arshdeep Singh. It’s worth noting that Shardul has been India’s highest wicket-taker in ODIs since the last World Cup. On the other hand, Arshdeep has failed to impress team management as he is not a part of the Asia Cup squad, which was announced earlier this week.

Bangar picked five specialist batters, including skipper Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, and Suryakumar Yadav. He further picked two wicketkeeper-batters, i.e., Ishan Kishan and KL Rahul. In his 15-member squad, Bangar picked two spinning allrounders, Ravindra Jadeja and Axar Patel, while for the pace department, he picked Hardik Pandya.

Yuzvendra Chahal misses out on Sanjay Bangar’s World Cup squad

Amid the ongoing controversy over the omission of Yuzvendra Chahal from the Asia Cup squad, Bangar didn’t give him a place in the World Cup squad. According to Bangar, he picked the team by considering the situation and match conditions, and he couldn’t fit in Chahal. For the spin option, Bangar went with Chinaman Kuldeep Yadav.

For pace options, Bangar picked Jasprit Bumrah, Arshdeep Singh, Mohammed Shami, and Mohammad Siraj. While explaining his selections, Bangar said, “For the World Cup, the way I have chosen my squad is focused on combinations. The combination will be as follows: five specialist batsmen, two wicketkeeper-batsmen, two spin-bowling all-rounders, one pace-bowling all-rounder, one specialist spinner, and four fast bowlers.
