India have taken a slight edge over the West Indies team in the 2nd Test of the 2-match Test series which is being played at the Queen’s Park Oval in Port of Spain. The Caribbean side finished with 229 for 5 wickets on Day 2. Despite a couple of interruptions due to rain, India didn’t let the momentum go.

Talking about the match so far, Virat Kohli‘s 29th Test century helped India achieve a big first innings total of 438 against the West Indies despite the fact that the West Indies won the toss and elected to bowl first. In 206 balls, he scored 121 runs, including 11 boundaries. Earlier, for the first wicket, Rohit Sharma and Yashavi Jaiswal put up a 139-run partnership.

Kohli smashed his century on Day 2 morning but soon got run out, Ravindra Jadeja quickly followed him with 61 off 152 balls, which included five boundaries. Ravichandran Ashwin helped India reach 438 before being bowled out by West Indies with a useful 56 from 78 balls and eight boundaries.

Brilliant bowling performance by India

In reply, West Indies started well as openers Kraigg Braithwaite and Tagenarine Chandrapaul stitched a 71-run opening stand. Even all the upcoming batters got a brilliant start but none of them was able to convert it into a big score. However, skipper Braithwaite played a 75-run knock which included 5 fours and 1 six.

Windies’ middle-order batters disappointed their fans as they couldn’t live up to their expectations and displayed a poor batting performance in the first innings. However, Alick Athanaze and Jason Holder are on the crease and will hope to stitch a massive partnership together on Day 4. Jadeja is the highest wicket-taker for India in the 2nd Test so far with 2 wickets.

Interestingly, West Indies have scored runs at a run rate of 2.12 in the first innings so far, which raises questions about their thinking. It looks like they are in no hurry but they should not forget that they have already lost the 1st match and if this match gets ended in a draw then they will lose the series.
