India dismissed South Africa for just 55 runs in the first innings before the lunch break of the Cape Town Test in 2024. The Indian bowlers were on an absolute roll and had SA in the backfoot right from the word go. Every delivery from the Indian bowlers looked like an event. Everything which was missing from the first Test came alive in the second Test for India.

The Indian bowlers landed the ball on the right areas. Jasprit Bumrah gave a brilliant start from his end. The star pacer got the ball to seam away and into the right handers. he also got the ball to swing away from the left handers. It was a good exhibition of skill sets. Though he did not pick many wickets, Bumrah was highly effective in the first session.

But the star of the show was undoubtedly Mohammad Siraj who bowled his greatest spell in international cricket till now. The right-arm pacer got the ball to swing early in the innings and then operated in good length. The highlight of the spell from Siraj was the extra bounce he managed to generate from a good length. No batter had an answer to it.

Career best figures for Mohammad Siraj

In his spell of 9 overs which were all on a trot in a single spell, Siraj bowled 3 maiden overs and claimed 6 wickets by conceding only 15 runs. It was a dream spell from the seamer which reduced SA to a score of only 55 runs in just 22.3 overs. Mukesh Kumar had a good debut as well. The right-arm seamer got the ball to seam both ways and claimed 2 wickets.

Prasidh Krishna did not have a huge role to perform. Bumrah claimed a couple of wickets as well. As a result, India gained a big step in the match within the first few overs. The visiting side would be hoping to post a good total on the board so that they could wrap up the match in a quick time before it could move away from them due to unwanted errors.
