No matter which leagues they play in, the brand Mumbai Indians (MI) keep adding trophies to their collection, as MI New York won the Major Cricket League (MLC)’s inaugural season on Sunday, July 30 at the Grand Prairie Stadium in Dallas. In the league’s final, they defeated Seattle Orcas by 7 wickets.

Nicholas Pooran was the hero of the match as he played an unbeaten knock of 137 runs off just 55 balls which included 10 fours and 13 sixes. Pooran single-handedly thrashed the Orcas’ bowling lineup and helped the team to win the match with 4 overs remaining. Pooran, who was also leading MI, talked about his knock in the post-match presentation.

“You are going to bat like Nicky P, I told myself and backed my skill. I just had to execute my skills, I have been working on it for the last 5-6 years. It was really special for me. I just want to thank all the fans and supporters, they have been really amazing.” Pooran said in the post-match presentation.

Brilliant batting performance by MI New York

Talking about the match, MI won the toss and opted to bowl first. They got the first breakthrough in the 5th over by dismissing Nauman Anwar on the score of just 9 runs. However, the other opener, Quinton de Kock continued to bat well and smashed 87 runs off just 52 balls which included 9 fours and 4 sixes.

After a few contributions from Orcas’ middle-order batters, they managed to achieve a total of 183 runs after the loss of 9 wickets in 20 overs. Rashid Khan was phenomenal with the ball as he conceded only 9 runs and picked 3 wickets in his four overs quota. Trent Bould also took 3 wickets.

Chasing the target, MI had a horrible start as they lost their first wicket without even scoring any runs. Steven Taylor departed in the very first over, courtesy of Imad Wasim. Shayan Jahangir was also dismissed on the score of just 10 runs. And then came the carnage of the Caribbean star, Pooran, who snatched the victory from Orcas’ hands and helped his team to lift the inaugural title.
