Quite a few records were broken during India’s seven-wicket win against South Africa in Cape Town on January 4. In what turned out to be a two-day affair, it was the shortest Test match ever. After bowling out the Proteas for 55, the Asian side was going well at 153/4. However, the team was bowled out for the same score as they lost the last six wickets for no runs.

Leading by 98, India managed to pick three wickets for 62 at the end of Day One. On the second and last day of the game, the home team kept losing the wickets. However, Aiden Markram scored a hundred at a strike rate of close to 90 runs. This helped the team make India bat again in the game even though the visitors won by seven wickets. With this win, both teams have managed to draw a Test series in the Rainbow Nation.

For the first time since the 2010-11 series, both teams drew a Test series. In the 2008 and 2010 series played in India, both teams shared the spoils 1-1. Meanwhile, this win means that India is at the top of the points table of the ongoing WTC 2023-25 cycle. They played the finals in 2021 and 2023 and lost to Oceania countries, New Zealand (21) and Australia (23). The defending champions have played the Ashes 2023 and are hosting three Tests against Pakistan.
