India, scoring 240+ runs, takes an early wicket, and then a left-hander starts drifting the game away from the Men in Blue. This has been a forgettable story for Rohit Sharma-led India in the last few months. However, the ongoing Test match between India and South Africa will surely be unforgettable for Dean Elgar.

Playing in his farewell test at his home ground, Elgar smashed a magnificent century while batting at a tricky wicket. Despite facing early setbacks, Elgar kept South Africa in the game with his gritty innings at Supersports Park in Centurion. At the end of 49 overs, the hosts posted a comfortable total of 194/3, with Elgar batting at 115 runs. His amazing batting performance troubled Indian bowlers, who were looking clueless.

The debutants Prasidh Krishna and Shardul Thakur failed to put up a show as they leaked runs consistently. They both combined to bowl 19 overs and give away almost 100 runs. Their poor performance in the field left India struggling with a lack of opportunities and runs in hand.

Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj continue to shine

Earlier, after getting bundled up for 245/10 in the 1st inning, Star India pacer Mohammad Siraj dismissed Aiden Markram as cheap. After an early setback, Dean Elgar, along with Tony De Zorzi, added 93 runs for the second wicket. However, just after a brief lunch break, India made a comeback as pacer Jasprit Bumrah took two wickets in quick succession.

Bumrah dismissed Zorzi, who scored 28 runs off 62 balls with the help of five boundaries. In the very next over, Keegan Petersen also fell victim to Bumrah’s amazing bowling performance. Petersen, in his innings, scored just two runs off seven balls before Bumrah nibbed his off stump. However, currently, South Africa is looking way ahead in the game as India struggles to find a breakthrough.
