India defeated Afghanistan in a one-sided clash in the 9th match of the ongoing ODI World Cup 2023. The contest was played at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on Wednesday, October 11. With this win, India are currently standing at the No. 2 spot in the points table just behind New Zealand who have the same points but are ahead with a better net run rate.

Meanwhile, a video is getting viral on the internet in which former India captain and modern-day great Virat Kohli can be seen honouring Shardul Thakur with a medal which he won for the best catch of the match. While receiving the medal, Thakur acted like he was emotional, however, it was quite evident that he was just having fun.

Watch the video here:

Thakur displayed a marvellous piece of fielding during the first innings of the match. He grabbed a brilliant catch at the boundary rope to dismiss the dangerous Afghanistan opener Rahmanullah Gurbaz in the 13th over. Thakur first grabbed the catch and threw the ball in the air before he went outside the boundary line, however, he comfortably completed the catch while coming back inside the boundary rope.

Brilliant all-round performance by India

Talking about the match, Afghanistan won the toss and elected to bat first. However, they were able to put up only 272 runs on the scoreboard with the help of brilliant half-centuries from skipper Hashmatullah Shahidi and Azmatullah Omarzai. However, no other batters could contribute anything to the scoreboard. Jasprit Bumrah picked up 4 wickets while conceding only 39 runs in his 10 overs quota.

Chasing the target, Indian skipper Rohit Sharma provided a cracking start to the team and smashed a 63-ball century. The right-handed destructive opener scored 131 runs off just 84 balls which included 16 fours and 5 sixes. His quickfire innings helped India to achieve the target with 15 overs to spare and 8 wickets in hand.
