India pacer Mohammed Siraj wreaked havoc against Sri Lanka in the ongoing Asia Cup 2023 final. In the game, the home side won the toss and elected to bat first. However, before the game started, the match was interrupted by rain. After the start, the sun didn’t come out and that had an impact on the game. With the new ball, Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj wreaked havoc.

The former took the first wicket in the second ball with the wicket of Kusal Perera. In the next over, Siraj came in to bowl and started with a maiden over. In his next over, he took four wickets. Starting the over with the wicket of Pathum Nissanka, Siraj trapped Sadeera Samawickrama two balls later. On the next ball, Charitha Asalanka was caught at covers.

Suddenly, Siraj was on a hat-trick. The India team took four slips and left the mid-on open. Dhanajaya De Silva, who faced the hat-trick ball, managed to place the ball towards the open area. As there was no fielder there, Siraj took it upon himself to chase down the ball alongside two other fielders.

Even though the right-arm pacer failed to chase down, former skipper Virat Kohli and Shubman Gill at slips found the entire incident funny.

Meanwhile, the Royal Challengers Bangalore player in the IPL has taken the joint-quickest five-wicket haul in the ODI format. In 2017, discarded Pakistan pacer, Usman Shinwari took five wickets in his first 16 balls. Notably, that record also came against Sri Lanka.

Six years later, it was a Deju Vu moment in the ongoing game as Siraj, who started with a maiden, took five wickets in his next 1.4 overs spell. In his second over, he took four wickets. The next over, he took his fifth wickets and reduced the home side to 12/6. The right-arm bowler took his sixth wicket in the form of Kusal Mendis. In the end, the Lankan Lions were bowled out for 50 runs. In reply, India have amassed 27/0 with Ishan Kishan and Shubman Gill batting at the crease.
