India are through the finals as they defeated New Zealand in the first semi-final of the ongoing ODI World Cup 2023 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on November 15. They won the match by a big margin of 70 runs and will now face either Australia or South Africa on November 19 in the final match.

Meanwhile, during the clash, former India captain Virat Kohli, known for his fierce competitiveness, exhibited a unique display of sportsmanship. Caught on camera, Kohli was seen sharing a wholesome moment as he took a sip of water from a bottle offered by New Zealand players.

The gesture displayed the spirit of mutual respect and friendship between players. The video of Kohli breaking the norm by hydrating with opponents created a buzz, emphasizing the shared values that unite players on the cricket field.

A brilliant all-round performance by India

Talking about the match, India chose to bat first and immediately seized control, with the captain’s aggressive approach setting the stage for a commanding innings, scoring 47 runs off just 29 balls. Subsequently, Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli forged a monumental partnership. Kohli’s remarkable achievement of surpassing Sachin Tendulkar’s ODI century record, alongside Shreyas Iyer’s power-hitting, propelled India to an imposing total of 397.

During New Zealand’s innings, Mohammed Shami‘s exceptional seam bowling in the powerplay removed both openers, Devon Conway and the in-form Rachin Ravindra. Despite the setbacks, a valiant 181-run stand between Daryl Mitchell and skipper Kane Williamson saw New Zealand staging a comeback.

India faced some fielding lapses, but strategic bowling changes, including introducing Shami in the middle overs, led to crucial breakthroughs. Kuldeep Yadav and Jasprit Bumrah contributed with vital wickets, while Shami’s sensational performance culminated in a seven-wicket haul, securing India’s victory. The Indian team now awaits the winner of the second semi-final between Australia and South Africa in Kolkata.
