The Pakistan Cricket Board is currently organising the domestic T20 tournament in the country. The National T20 Cup is being played at various venues between local boards in the country. The tournament is important for the players, as a great performance might push them into the T20 World Cup 2024 squad. Senior players like Shadab Khan are also participating in the tournament.

However, PCB’s sorry state of infrastructure and organisation was once again exposed on Sunday. In a National T20 Cup match between Rawalpindi and Sialkot, Pakistan all-rounder Shadab Khan suffered a back injury and had to be carried off the field by a teammate. This incident highlighted the inadequate facilities at venues where the Pakistan Cricket Board hosts domestic matches.

Here is the video:

The UBL ground in Rawalpindi hosted the match on Sunday, when Shadab Khan, attempting to stop the ball with his left foot, ended up twisting his ankle. Due to the absence of stretchers on the ground, the 12th man stepped in, and Shadab Khan was piggybacked on his shoulder as he was carried out of the field, as confirmed by the local news channel Samaa TV.

Shadab Khan fails to make it to the Australia tour!

Shadab Khan’s recent appearance for Pakistan was in the ODI World Cup held in India from August 5 to November 19. Unfortunately, the tournament saw Pakistan fall short of the semi-finals, and Shadab, serving as Babar Azam‘s deputy, had a subpar performance. Surprisingly, the PCB overlooked him for captaincy, appointing Shaheen Afridi as the new leader of the T20I team.

Shadab is also dropped from the Test squad, which, under the leadership of Shan Masood, is in Australia for a three-match series. The series will start with a four-day warm-up game at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. However, Shadab failed to make it into the squad and will need to perform outstandingly in the ongoing National Cup to get back into the national side.
