Shubman Gill is set to lead the Gujarat Titans in the IPL 2024. The youngster will be the second captain of the franchise after Hardik Pandya in the IPL. Hardik led GT in 2022 and 2023. During that period, Gill was one of the best performers of the franchise, as he scored a lot of runs. In 2022, Gill was instrumental in the title win of the franchise.

In 2023, Gill had a wonderful season with the bat, as he scored 890 runs in 17 innings at an average of over 59, at a strike rate of well over 150, including 3 hundred and 4 fifty-plus scores. As Hardik got traded to Mumbai Indians for IPL 2024, Gill was named the captain of GT. Hardik became the biggest trade ever in the history of the IPL to date.

After becoming the captain of GT, Gill reacted for the first time. When asked if becoming the captain of the franchise has sunk in yet for him, Gill replied saying that it has not sunk in yet for him and might take him some more time to digest it, till they play the first match of the season. Gill added that it is a special feeling for him to lead GT in the IPL.

An indirect dig over a particular leader?

Further Gill added that it was his wish to play in the IPL as a 7–8-year-old kid. The star batter said that it is a special feeling for him to lead a side in the biggest cricket league. Gill was asked to comment on the captaincy. The 24-year-old talked about 4 factors that define a captain. It had the fans wondering about the context in which he talked about the factors.

Gill said that some important factors define a captain, like Commitment, Discipline, hard work, and Loyalty. While Gill added that he learnt them under his previous captains, the fans are wondering if he had an indirect dig over Hardik Pandya, who left Gujarat Titans and went back to Mumbai Indians. It is unsure if Gill had any intention behind his statement.
