Former India pacer Zaheer Khan names his Indian captaincy choice for 2024 T20 World Cup
Zaheer Khan has given his preference to lead Team India during the T20 World Cup in 2024. India will head into the tournament in search of silverware which has eluded them for the last 10 years.
The closest India came to winning a world title was a week ago during the ODI World Cup 2023 tournament. Rohit Sharma and his team lost in the finals to Australia to break a billion hearts.
Zaheer Khan names India’s skipper for 2024 T20 World Cup –
Former Indian pace legend Zaheer Khan has said that he wants to see Rohit Sharma lead Team India during the 2024 T20 World Cup. The 45-year-old has reposed his faith in his former India and Mumbai Indians teammate over Hardik Pandya.
Speaking to CRICBUZZ, Zaheer Khan said “Well, because the T20 World Cup is just around the corner and there is not a lot of time left, you have to go in with experience. You will have to give that preference to the experienced guy and I will not be surprised if they decide to go ahead with Rohit Sharma himself”
Zaheer Khan also said “He’s the guy who’s been around for a while. He understands handling situations, handling pressure and those kind of aspects. You still have time for all these other names that are on the list to take the mantle forward”
The focus will be on Rohit Sharma as he leads Mumbai Indians during the IPL 2024 tournament, If the veteran batter can lead Mumbai to their 6th title win, there will be calls for Rohit to captain India once again.
The former India pacer also said “You have a big tournament like the IPL in between, which will give them enough time to prepare. So, it’s either going to be Rohit Sharma or depending on how Hardik goes about his rehab, his comeback. The challenge is that he’s not going to be playing that many games”
Hardik Pandya has been in the news after his return to Mumbai Indians in a huge trade last Sunday. If Hardik Pandya can get fit in time and Rohit Sharma can score runs and win the title once more, it will be a huge call for the selectors to take.
