‘Insane numbers’ – Fans react to Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli’s Wikipedia page number surge
Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli’s Wikipedia page search numbers surged to astronomical levels during October and November. Both the players were in good form during the ODI World Cup 2023 tournament
Despite the efforts with the bat from the two Indian stalwarts, India ended up as the runners-up. Australia won the ODI World Cup 2023 final thanks to a century from Travis Head to help his side win the game by 6 wickets.
A high volume of Wikipedia searches for Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli –
Indian skipper Rohit Sharma had over 4.7 million searches for his details on Wikipedia, while Virat Kohli saw over 5 million searches. These high numbers were recorded during October and November.
Team India had a great run where they won 10 games in a row before losing the ODI World Cup 2023 finals. Rohit Sharma scored 47 runs in the final and Virat Kohli scored 51 runs but the effort wasn’t enough as India was all out for 240 runs.
Rohit Sharma had created a record during the tournament when he scored the most runs by a skipper in ODI World Cup history. Virat Kohli meanwhile had scored over 750 runs which made him the first-ever batter to breach 700+ runs in the history of the tournament.
During his century against New Zealand in Mumbai versus New Zealand, Virat Kohli scored his 50th ODI century. The 35-year-old went past the record for the most centuries in ODI cricket going past the record set by Sachin Tendulkar over a decade ago.
It was a tournament to remember for Rohit Sharma as well as he became the leading six hitter in international cricket. The 36-year-old scored a blistering century versus Afghanistan to score his 7th ton in ODI World Cup history. This is the most by a batter in all of the 13 editions of the tournament.
Both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli’s future in T20 Cricket have been at the top of discussion in recent times. With the T20 World Cup a few months away the Indian Cricket Board is set to discuss plans with both the Indian veteran batters.
