Afridi may have taken retirement from international cricket, but he continued to play in multiple T20 franchise leagues. He recently appeared in the 5th match of the ongoing Global T20 League which was played between Brampton Wolves and Toronto Nationals on Sunday, July 23.
A brilliant all-round performance by Brampton Wolves
Toronto won the toss and opted to bat first. Despite having a great start from the top-order batters, Toronto managed to score only 142 runs after losing 8 wickets in the first innings. Nicholas Kirton was the highest run scorer with 50 runs which included 5 fours and 1 six. Talking about Afridi, he scored 15 runs off 12 deliveries which included only 1 four.
Chasing the target, Brampton had a horrible start as they lost their 3 wickets on the score of 34 runs inside the powerplay. However, their middle-order batters steadied the ship and brought the team back into the game. Hussain Talat played a magnificent innings of 44 runs which came off 33 balls. He also smashed 2 fours and as many sixes.
However, Toronto got some breakthroughs at the crucial stage but the tailenders Shahd Ahmadzai and Jan Frylinck held their nerves and helped the team to win the match by just 1 wicket in the last over of the match. Afridi displayed a brilliant bowling performance by taking 2 wickets but couldn’t help the team to win the match.
