The Pakistan cricket team has struggled with their fielding in the past, earning a reputation as one of the poorest fielding sides globally. Instances of dropped catches, misfielding, and lapses in awareness have become synonymous with Pakistan cricket. This trend continued during Day 1 of the 1st Test in the 3-match series against Australia in Perth on Thursday, December 14.

A comical incident unfolded during the 1st innings when Pakistan’s wicketkeeper, Sarfaraz Ahmed, failed to gather a straightforward delivery behind the stumps. David Warner, Australia‘s seasoned opener, ventured down the pitch, missing the ball with his bat. However, Ahmed’s inability to collect the ball provided Warner with a reprieve.

Interestingly, Babar Azam, positioned at slips, managed to collect the ball and had an opportunity to run Warner out. His throw towards the stumps, however, missed its mark, granting Warner another chance. At the time, Warner was batting at 141 but eventually returned to the pavilion after scoring 164 runs.

Brilliant batting display by David Warner

Notably, this wasn’t the only lifeline Warner received during the day, as earlier, Khurram Shahzad and Agha Salman had also missed catching and run-out opportunities, respectively. By the end of the third day, Australia reached a total of 346 for the loss of 5 wickets, with Mitchell Marsh and Alex Carey at the crease. Pakistani pacer Aamer Jamal has picked up 2 wickets while Shaheen Afridi, Faheem Ashraf and Shahzad has taken 1 wicket each so far.

Talking about Warner, he is playing the farewell Test series of his career and smashing his 26th Test century in it is nothing but a wonderful achievement for him. The left-handed batter still has 5 Test innings and he will try to make these innings memorable for him. The star opener played a magnificent innings of 164 runs which included 16 fours and 4 sixes.
