WATCH: Rohit Sharma replies to journalist asking about 2019 World Cup final result
India skipper Rohit Sharma among the other nine skippers of their respective sides, spoke to the media during the captain’s meet event. Before the floor was opened for the media, the 10 skippers spoke to World Cup winners Ravi Shastri (1983) and Eoin Morgan (1987). The duo asked a lot of questions to all the skippers and the guys responded accordingly.
Meanwhile, after the floor was opened for the media, a journalist asked about the 2019 final result. Apparently, in the summit clash of the 12th edition, England and New Zealand, who never won a World Cup before locked horns. At the end of the 100 overs (50 overs played by each team), both teams ended on the same score. For the first time in the ODI World Cups, Super Over was used.
Even after this, both teams failed to win as the one-over eliminator was tied. In the end, boundary count (now defunct rule) was used to determine the winner. This meant that England won their maiden ODI World Cup title, having played three finals before. Meanwhile, during the captain’s meet event, a media person asked the question about how the winner could have been determined.
In reply, Sharma said that it’s not his job.
