Former Pakistan captain Babar Azam found himself at the receiving end after the Men in Green’s horrible loss against Afghanistan during a league stage match of the recently concluded ODI World Cup 2023. He also couldn’t help his team to qualify for the knockouts and ended up at the no. 5 spot in the points table.

Meanwhile, Afghanistan’s star wicketkeeper-batter Rahmanullah Gurbaz recently talked about Babar. The Afghan opening batter went to Babar and received a bat from him, however, according to him, Babar was very disappointed with the loss and was criticised brutally by fans and former cricketers. He said that Babar was about to cry that day.

“That moment I will never forget about Babar. We beat Pakistan, and then I asked for his bat. Once he brought the bat, he was so disappointed, and I can feel as a player. I can feel that, you know, when you lost the game and then this, especially in this kind of situation. He was under so much pressure.” Gurbaz was quoted as saying by One Cricket.

“Trust me, I was trying not to say this in front of the camera, but I want to say that he was about to cry. He was so dejected, and I have never seen any player like that. Everyone was against him. But I salute Babar bhai, he was so strong and he kept going. He never gave up.” he added.

Pakistan are set to face Australia for a 3-match Test series

For those unfamiliar with the recent developments, Babar has stepped down from captaincy duties in all formats of cricket. While the Pakistan Cricket Board has already revealed the captains for the Test and T20I teams, the ODI captain is yet to be announced. Notably, the renowned fast bowler Shaheen Afridi will take charge of the T20I team, whereas Shan Masood is set to lead the Test side.

As the Men in Green prepare for the upcoming 3-match Test series in Australia starting on December 14, it marks Masood’s debut as the team’s captain. It’s worth noting that Babar, although relinquishing the captaincy, will continue to contribute as a batter, providing support to Masood in his new leadership role.
