A unique moment happened on the fourth day of the second Test at MCG. Pat Cummins and Alex Carey completed 5 runs in a single delivery without the ball reaching boundary ropes through overthrows. The moment has been one of the rarest in cricket history and involved a lot of running from the two batters in the middle. Some sloppy fielding from Pakistan ensured that the two completed the feat.

Jamal bowled a back of a length delivery to Pat Cummins. The star cricketer threw the bat at it and the ball travelled towards the covers region. Cummins and Carey ran hard and completed two runs. Shan Masood was behind the ball and made a good effort to throw the ball back to cut off some runs. Despite Masood being quick enough, Pakistan committed a mistake.

Watch the video of the incident here:

Masood threw the ball towards the non-striker’s end where Shaheen had come out for backing up the ball. When Masood threw it, Carey made a diving attempt to reach to the crease. It confused Afridi who was waiting for the ball. In the process, the ball went out of reach of the star cricketer. The two batters recognized it and ran harder for more runs. There was frustration from the unit of Pakistan.

Australia complete 5 runs in a single ball

Afridi nodded his head at the mistake and saw Imam-ul-Haq chasing the ball. Cummins and Carey ran harder as the ball travelled towards the other part of the ground. Imam ran harder and cut off the ball reaching towards the boundary. Meanwhile, the duo of Cummins and Alex Carey had already run 3 more runs to complete 5 runs for the home side.

Imam made his effort to throw the ball to the striker’s end where Mohammad Rizwan did not make any mistake further and collected it well. But the duo of Cummins and Carey had already run 5 runs without the ball reaching the boundary ropes. It was a product of poor judgment from the fielders of Pakistan and some brilliant running between the wickets from the duo.
