Jay Shah names Rohit Sharma as captain for T20 World Cup 2024-
The dust has settled on the T20I captaincy debate with Rohit Sharma being named the skipper. Jay Shah who is a huge name in the Indian Cricket Board made his statement on Wednesday night.
During a small gathering in Rajkot, Jay Shah said, “Main aapko promise karna chahata hu ki Rohit Sharma ki kaptaani main 2024 main Barbados main hum jarur Bharat ka Jhanda gadenge”. Rohit Sharma could be seen smiling flanked by Ravindra Jadeja and Axar Patel as Siraj was seen clapping.
During the ceremony, Jay Shah also thundered about the fate of players who aren’t playing domestic cricket. “They have been informed on phone already and I’m going to write letters as well that if your chairman of selectors, your coach and your captain are asking for it then you will have to play red-ball cricket,” he said.
Ishan Kishan hasn’t played red-ball cricket and has been defying Rahul Dravid and the Team management. The youngster had pulled out of the South Africa Test series citing mental fatigue.
“Whatever advice we get from the Cricket Academy- say suppose somebody’s body is not able to handle both white-ball and red-ball cricket. We do not want to impose anything in this regard. Whoever is fit and young we aren’t going to tolerate any tantrums. This message is for all centrally contracted players,” remarked Jay Shah.
The 35-year-old also said, “Everyone will have to play, otherwise, the chairman of the selection committee has given me his suggestions and I am going to give him a free hand to let him take his own calls freely.”
Finally speaking about Virat Kohli this is what Jay Shah said, “If somebody is asking for a personal leave in 15 years then it is his right to ask for it. Virat is not that kind of a player that he would ask for a leave without any reason. We must back and trust our players.”
