After failing to grab the first session of the day, India made inroads into the Test by claiming four wickets in the 2nd session of the 2nd day. Kuldeep Yadav opened the floodgates for India by getting rid of Ben Duckett to provide the 1st breakthrough for the home side.

Axar Patel did damage to England by getting the wicket of a well-set Zack Crawley. England were 113/2 at that stage with two new batters in the middle. The two wickets were going to be the most precious ones for India given the record of Ollie Pope and Joe Root in the Indian conditions.
Jasprit Bumrah gets key wickets for England in the second session of the second day
While Pope does not have as good a record in India, he was the Player of the Match in the 1st Test. Root had a very good double hundred in Chennai when he toured in 2021. It was evident that the two batters had to be removed as soon as possible by the home side. There was no better option than the right-arm pacer to do the job.
He set Joe Root well. Bumrah bombarded a series of in-swinging deliveries to Root and forced him to leave no ball. As Bumrah got the ball to move away from the right-hander, there was no way for root but to poke at the ball. As he did, the ball was carried straight to the 1st slip where Shubman Gill made no mistake.
While it was a master plan in itself, the wicket of Ollie Pope was much better. The Indian pacer nailed an inch-perfect yorker. Pope had no clue how he ended up not getting the bat onto it, as the middle stump was uprooted and the leg stump went for a tour.
