Shubman Gill was dismissed for just 34 runs in 47 balls in the 2nd Test against England. In the 1st innings of the Vizag test, Gill was undone by James Anderson towards the end of the first session. The bad patch of Gill has continued with his latest performance against England.

Rohit Sharma was undone by the debutant Shoaib Bashir, thanks to a brilliant field set by Ben Stokes. The Indian captain was caught in the leg slip for just 14 runs, they seemed to bat without any intent in his stay in the middle. In came Shubman who was watchful as well.

It seemed like defending a lot in the middle was not necessarily the best way to play. Batters who struggled to get going and ended up being reserved to their shell struggled to find runs. And to score some runs, both the star batters like Rohit and Gill perished. Gill took some time to score runs in the middle.

Brilliant set-up by James Anderson to dismiss Shubman Gill

After watching some balls, Gill started to go after the bowlers. It helped him momentarily, as Bashir was attacked which led the youngster to miss his lengths. However, the intent of the Indian number three was a short-lived one. Anderson was brought into the attack by Ben Stokes towards the fag end of the 1st session.

One wondered why the England captain opted to get back his key bowler with just a little over 15 minutes left in the play for the lunch to happen. Ben Stokes and Anderson showed why exactly the decision took place. The experienced bowler tempted Gill to play the shots by asking him to drive the ball consistently.

Gill played his shots before nicking one. The ball was landed by Jimmy on a good length. The youngster tried to drive it through the covers. The edge was induced as Foakes made no mistakes behind the stumps. It was a perfect setup by England to send Gill back to the pavilion.
