WATCH: Indian players felicitate Nepal players after their Asia Cup 2023 clash for their spirited efforts

For the first time in their history, India played against Nepal in the ongoing Asia Cup 2023 on September 4 in Pallekele. In the game, the Men in Blue won the toss and elected to bowl first. In the first 10 overs, the seven-time winners dropped three catches. This led to the Nepalese getting a decent start. Even though they lost their way in the middle overs, their lower order helped the team reach 230 runs.

After the first innings, the game was impacted by rain and it was reduced to 23 overs. The former champions went on to win the game by 10 wickets. The likes of Shubman Gill and skipper Rohit Sharma scored fifties and chased down the target in 20.1 overs. Thanks to this, India reached the Super Four round of the ongoing Asia Cup 2023. After the game, Indian players gave the medal to their Asian neighbors.

Nepal cricket is on the rise

In the last few months, the Rhinos have been on the rise. In June this year, they made their appearance in the ODI World Cup qualifiers 2023. Even though they crashed out in the first round, they got enough exposure against quality associate teams. Before this, they reached the final of the Asia Cup qualifier to determine the sixth team of the ongoing tournament.

Even though they have crashed out of the ongoing continental tournament, they have played against quality teams such as Pakistan and India.
