Talking about the match, Indian skipper Rohit Sharma opted to field first after winning the toss. Mohammad Siraj was hit for some boundaries initially. However, Jasprit Bumrah continued to exhibit his consistent excellence, setting the match’s tone with his economical bowling. It was Siraj who managed to remove Abdullah Shafique, while Hardik Pandya provided a pivotal breakthrough by dismissing Imam-Ul-Haq.
Brilliant all-round performance by India
Subsequent to these dismissals, a brief partnership materialized between Pakistan’s standout batters, Mohammad Rizwan and Babar Azam. At the 29.2 over mark, Pakistan’s score stood at 155/2. However, what unfolded next was an astonishing collapse of Pakistan’s lower middle order, where batsmen came and went rapidly, leaving the innings progression in complete disarray.
Pakistan, after being 155/2, witnessed a dramatic decline in their fortunes, eventually reaching a total of 191 runs. The last eight wickets tumbled for a mere 36 runs. Babar Azam was the sole standout, reaching a fifty, while Mohammad Rizwan contributed 49 runs. However, the rest of the batting order struggled significantly. India’s bowling attack was effective, with five bowlers claiming two wickets each – Bumrah, Siraj, Kuldeep Yadav, Ravindra Jadeja, and Pandya.
India faced a target that lacked threat, and they established their dominance right from the start. Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli made valuable contributions, while Rohit Sharma’s brilliant performance stole the game away from Pakistan. Sharma’s impressive 86 off 63 balls, featuring 6 fours and 6 sixes, ensured India’s clear advantage. Shreyas Iyer also found form with a half-century. In the end, India comfortably won the match with 7 wickets to spare and 117 balls remaining.
