Pakistan had a disappointing end to the recent Asia Cup 2023 after failing to qualify for the final. But, it was even worse as their prime pacers like Naseem Shah and Haris Rauf got ruled out of the tournament with injuries. The number one-ranked ODI team are yet to announce their final squad for the upcoming ODI World Cup.

But, now, a video went viral where Rauf was seen having bowling practices at the National Cricket Academy in Lahore. That video can give a boost to Pakistan and its fans as Rauf can play a major role in the Men in Green’s success in this upcoming mega event. At one stage, in the Asia Cup 2023, Haris Rauf was the leading wicket-taker.

In four matches, he picked up nine wickets including a four-fer against Bangladesh and a three-fer against India. In the ‘Super 4’ clash against India, Rauf bowled just five overs and conceded 27 runs. But, on the next ‘reserve’ day, he did not play. Rauf felt “a little discomfort in his right flank”.

“He’s just got a little bit of a side strain” – Babar Azam on Haris Rauf’s injury

The Pakistan Cricket Board also shared an update on social media. They said: “He was subsequently taken for a precautionary MRI, which revealed no tear. He is under the observation of the team’s medical panel.” Pakistan’s current bowling coach, Morne Morkel also confirmed that Haris Rauf pulled an oblique muscle. Hence, they did not take a risk with him ahead of the World Cup and he has been put on ice.

However, during a post-match press conference, skipper Babar Azam said that Rauf has been recovering well and is looking to get fit by the start of the World Cup. He said: “Not telling you our Plan B now. But yes, Haris Rauf is not bad. He’s just got a little bit of a side strain, but he’s recovering before the World Cup.”  Rauf has 53 wickets to his name in 28 ODIs so far, at an economy of 5.68 with an average of 24.32.
