Chennai Super Kings (CSK) are one of the most successful franchises in the Indian Premier League (IPL) history. The five-time title-winning Chennai-based franchise has a massive fan following and most of the credits go to their talisman MS Dhoni. CSK will aim to win their sixth and consecutive title in IPL 2024 under the leadership of the legendary wicket-keeper batter and they have a better team than last season.

Over the years, one of the main strengths of the franchise has been its opening pair. New Zealand batter Devon Conway has been doing the job for the past two seasons alongside Ruturaj Gaikwad. In the 2022 season, they had a poor outing, finishing second last in the points table. But in the following edition, they rose like a phoenix and won the record-equaling title, with Conway playing a major role with the bat.

Conway was roped in by CSK in the 2022 mega auction as a replacement for Faf du Plessis. In his debut season, the southpaw scored 252 runs in 7 matches at an average of 42.00 and strike rate of 145.66, including three fifty-plus scores. The 2023 IPL witnessed the true power of Conway as he finished the tournament as the third-highest run-scorer with 672 runs from 16 matches, including 6 half-centuries.

Conway stuns CSK fans in Hamilton with his Tamil

The wicketkeeper batter managed to enter the hearts of CSK fans with his brilliant performance. An example of this was witnessed on Sunday, January 14, after New Zealand beat Pakistan by 21 runs at Seddon Park in Hamilton. Conway was giving autographs to fans in the stands, while another fan from India was filming the process on his mobile phone.

When the cricketer realised that the two fans next to him were from India, he spoke in Tamil for all his CSK fans. Conway can be heard saying, “Nice video machan” as he poses for the video with them. The two Indians were stunned to hear the Kiwi star speaking in their native language. Conway also says “whistle podu” (slogan of CSK) after a while.
