WATCH: Alia Bhatt receives National Award in her wedding saree for ‘Gangubai Kathiawadi’ in best actress category

Bollywood renowned actress Alia Bhatt was awarded the National Award for Best Actress for her role in Gangubai Kathiawadi. She arrived at the event with her husband, actor Ranbir Kapoor, and their photos and videos have gone viral on social media, with fans showering her with love for her stunning appearance at this prestigious occasion. She chose to attend the ceremony in the same beautiful white saree she had worn on her wedding day.

Alia looked absolutely radiant in her white saree with delicate golden embroidery, designed by the renowned fashion designer Sabyasachi. She styled her hair in a bun and opted for a unique set of jewellery for the event. Her makeup included kohl-rimmed eyes, nude lips, and a red bindi. She also adorned white roses in her hair, a look reminiscent of her character in Gangubai Kathiawadi.

During the award acceptance, Ranbir Kapoor was seen capturing this special moment on his mobile device. Alia and Ranbir had tied the knot on April 14 at their Mumbai home the previous year, and she had looked stunning in the same ivory saree with golden accents on their wedding day. She complemented the look with elaborate Kundan jewellery but kept her makeup minimal.

Gangubai Kathiawadi, directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, tells the story of a woman forced into prostitution by a suitor and her journey to becoming a prominent and celebrated figure in the underworld and the Kamathipua red-light district. Alia’s outstanding performance in the film earned her the Best Actress Award at both IIFA 2023 and Filmfare Awards 2023.

Director Sanjay Leela Bhansali also received the National Award for Best Editing for the film. Looking ahead, Alia is set to appear in director Vasan Bala’s upcoming film ‘Jigra,’ which she is also producing. ‘Jigra’ is scheduled for a theatrical release on September 27, 2024.
