In the 14th game of the ongoing ODI World Cup 2023, the 1996 and 2007 finalists Sri Lanka and Australia locked horns. Ahead of the game, both teams had lost their first two games. While the Aussies lost to India and South Africa, the Lankan Lions lost to the Proteas and Pakistan. Meanwhile, in this game, the 1996 winners won the toss and elected to bat first.

They had a great start with Pathum Nissanka and Kusal Perera putting together 125 runs in just 21.4 overs. After the fall of the former, the team was reduced to 165/3 before the forced rain break. Despite the break, the overs weren’t reduced as the break didn’t last for more than an hour. Meanwhile, after the break, the Lankan batters fell like the nine pins and were bowled out for 209.

For the five-time winners, Adam Zampa, who has been out of form since getting hit by Rassie van der Dussen a couple of months back, took four wickets to get some form. Apart from him, Mitchell Starc and skipper Pat Cummins took two wickets each. Glenn Maxwell took a wicket as well.
