Virender Sehwag praise Virat Kohli for his match-winning 85 against Australia in ODI WC 2023

In the ODI World Cup 2023 game between India and Australia, former India skipper Virat Kohli played a match-winning knock. In the game, the visitors, Australia won the toss and elected to bat first. They had a poor start after losing Mitchell Marsh early. The likes of David Warner and Steve Smith put together 69 runs for the second wicket.

However, after the duo’s wickets, the team had a massive collapse as they went from 110/2 to 165/8 against the Indian spinners. In the end, the former champions managed 199 all-out in 49.3 overs. In reply, the home team had a poor start as they lost three wickets for two runs. At this stage, the likes of Kohli and KL Rahul put together 165 runs.

The former scored 85 runs and caught the attention of former teammate, Virender Sehwag. The latter praised Kohli for his innings.

Hats off to Virat Kohli and KL Rahul: Rohit Sharma

While Kohli scored 85, Rahul scored 97 not out. Both helped the team win the game by six wicket. After the game, India skipper Rohit Sharma praised the duo.

“Hats off to Virat and KL – the way they stuck out there to create a match-winning partnership. (Adapting to next surface?) That will be the biggest challenge moving forward because we will play in different conditions. Might have to change combinations too and as a team we are prepared to do that,” India skipper Rohit Sharma in the post-match presentation ceremony.

On the other hand, the Australia skipper said that the team could have had a chance if Kohli’s catch early in his innings was taken by Mitchell Marsh.

“I’ve already forgotten about it! Not ideal, especially for his calibre. Four down for 10 would’ve been amazing but wasn’t to be,” Australia skipper Pat Cummins said.
