As expected, it’s now confirmed Varisu and Thunivu will clash at the box office during Pongal 2023.

The release of Ajith Kumar’s Thunivu for Pongal 2023 has now been officially announced. The producer of the upcoming movie, Boney Kapoor, disclosed in a tweet that the movie is scheduled to be released on Pongal even though the precise release date has not yet been made public. As Vijay’s Varisu will also be released during the festival week, Ajith’s Thunivu and that of Vijay will compete at the box office.

The distribution rights for Ajith’s movie have been secured by production company Red Giant Movies was also announced along with the release date.

The release of Vijay’s Varisu during Pongal was previously confirmed. The upcoming battle has already sparked a lot of discussion on social media.

The last time Vijay and Ajith competed at the box office was nearly eight years ago.

On January 10, 2014, Vijay’s Jilla and Ajith’s Veeram were both released. Jilla received just average reviews from the audience, and Ajith emerged as the victor. It would be intriguing to observe whether Vijay exacts his vengeance this time or whether Ajith maintains his winning streak.

While Vamshi Paidipally’s family-friendly entertainer Varisu is advertised as having all the masala charm, Thunivu’s plot specifics are still a secret. However, the movie’s first look posters give away that it will be an action thriller like his previous film with Ajith, Valimai, which was also directed by H Vinoth.

Pongal 2023 is going to be battle of the box office as along with Vijay’s Varisu and Ajith’s Thunivu, Prabhas’ Adipurush is releasing on 12th January 2023. Just 3 days before Pongal!
