Jasprit Bumrah has been handed a demerit point for being found guilty in level 1 breach of Code of conduct of Apex Board. In the 1st Test of the series between India and England at Hyderabad, Bumrah had a confrontation with ollie Pope when the latter was trying to take a run. The incident happened on the 4th day of the 2nd innings of the first Test at Hyderabad.

It seemed like the Indian pacer tried to stop Ollie Pope from completing the run by not giving a way for the batter. It was seen that Bumrah was in the way of the batter who tried to claim a run. In the process, the two had contact with each other. It came under the level 1 breach of code of conduct of the Apex Board. For the same, Bumrah is handed a demerit point.

The article 2.12 of the Apex Board’s code of conduct is related to “Inappropriate physical contact with a Player, Player Support Personnel, Umpire, Match Referee or any other person (including a spectator during an International Match).” The incident occurred in the 81st over of England’s innings. It was concluded that the 30-year-old deliberately tried to stop the batter.

Jasprit Bumrah admits blocking Ollie Pope’s way

As the incident was observed, a discussion took place between Bumrah and the match referee, Richie Richardson. Bumrah accepted his mistake while speaking to Richie. As a result, there was no need of a formal hearing. For his conduct, the pacer from India was reprimanded, which is the basic penalty for being involved in the breach of the level 1 of the code of conduct.

In the serious level of the breach, there can be a penalty of 50 per cent of the match fees. There can also be a demerit point ranging from one to two. The Indian pacer was impressive in the first Test for India. In the 1st innings, the star pacer claimed two wickets with the ball. In the 2nd innings, Jasprit was the key bowler for the home side and picked four wickets, including that of Ollie Pope.
