Mohammed Shami and Suryakumar Yadav have been out of the Indian side in the last few weeks due to injuries. While Shami was not able to recover from the injury he sustained during the ODI WC 2023, Suryakumar suffered an ankle injury in the recently concluded series against SA in T20Is, where he led India as a captain in the absence of Hardik Pandya.

The two have been in their recovery phase in recent times to be fit before their next assignment. Shami sustained an ankle injury in the ODI WC 2023 and continued playing despite being in pain. Shami gave his best with the ball for India in the tournament and was ruled out of the series against Australia and SA. Suryakumar has been ruled out of the series against Afghanistan.

The latest reports claim that Shami might not be available for the first 2 Tests against England. The sources claim that Shami is yet to prove his fitness to take part in the series against England. “Shami hasn’t even started to bowl, he will have to go to NCA and prove his fitness. He looks doubtful for the first two Tests against England,” claimed the reports.

Suryakumar Yadav to undergo surgery

The reports also claimed that Yadav might have to undergo surgery to recover from a hernia. It might take some time for him to return to cricket. Reports claim that the star batter might not be available till the beginning of the IPL 2024. It might be of a bit of concern for Mumbai Indians, who rely highly on the unorthodox batter to deliver the goods, especially in the middle overs.

“In Yadav’s case, he will take more time than expected. After his hernia operation, it might take up to eight to nine weeks for him to start training. Hopefully, he will be fit during the IPL,” added the reports in their statement. Suryakumar led India in the T20Is against SA and Australia. In his absence, Rohit Sharma has returned to the India side as the T20I captain for the series against Afghanistan.
