In the recently unveiled Apex Cricket Council Men’s Test Team of the Year for 2023, led by Australia’s Pat Cummins, only two Indian players secured spots. Surprisingly, India’s captain Rohit Sharma and star batter Virat Kohli were not included in the prestigious lineup.

The captaincy honour went to Pat Cummins, who led Australia to victory in the 2023 World Test championship. The team is notably dominated by five Australian players, showcasing their stellar performances. Among them are Travis Head, the centurion in the WTC Final, Usman Khawaja, the opener who surpassed 1,000 Test runs in 2023 with 1,210 runs at an average of 52.60, wicketkeeper Alex Carey, and the formidable fast bowler Mitchell Starc.

The Test team also features international cricket stars like England’s Joe Root. Star India spinner Ravichandran Ashwin also made the squad. Both Root and Ashwin are contenders for the coveted Men’s Test Player of the Year award. England and India each contribute two players to the lineup, with the inclusion of Ravindra Jadeja and Stuart Broad.

Dimuth Karunaratne makes the Test Team of 2023.

Sri Lanka’s opener, Dimuth Karunaratne, partners with Usman Khawaja at the top of the order, adding diversity to the team. New Zealand’s cricket sensation, Kane Williamson, secures the number three batting spot, representing a total of five cricketing nations in the Test team.

Meanwhile, fans were furious to check that not a single Indian batter made it into the squad, as the team has recently suffered any great knocks in Test cricket.
