The 8th match of the ongoing ODI World Cup 2023 is being played at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad on Tuesday, October 10. Looking at the surface in Hyderabad which is more suited for the batters, Sri Lanka opted to bat first after winning the toss. 

The decision proved right as Sri Lanka’s star wicketkeeper-batter Kusal Mendis smashed an amazing century which came off just 65 balls. He delivered a jaw-dropping performance that left cricket fans around the world in awe. The talented Sri Lankan batsman also smashed 14 fours and 6 sixes, showcasing his immense skill and power at the crease.

Mendis’s incredible innings was a masterclass in aggressive yet calculated batting. He found gaps in the field with ease, displayed impeccable timing, and sent the Pakistan bowlers on a leather hunt. The century included a barrage of boundaries and towering sixes that had spectators at the edge of their seats. His innings ended up with 122 runs off just 77 balls, Hasan Ali got rid of the batter in the 29th over after getting hit for 2 back-to-back sixes.

Apart from his personal milestone, Mendis also stitched 2 consecutive century partnerships with Pathum Nissanka and Sadeera Samarawickrama. 

He made a mockery of Pakistan’s lethal fast-bowling lineup as he smashed all 3 speedsters Shaheen Afridi, Haris Rauf and Hasan Ali. Spinners Shadab Khan and Mohammad Nawaz were also left scratching their heads.
