‘Too late, my career is over now’ – Fans react as Indian Cricket Board set to launch country wide talent hunt to discover young pacers for future

In India, the cricket management never seriously focused to hunt talented speedsters. This is the case since the Indian cricket strategy has, up until this point, focused on utilising quality spinners to contain the opposition and on the batters. This approach typically fails when used in challenging conditions outside of the subcontinent, where the sluggish tracks keep the ball low.

Meanwhile, the Indian Cricket Board has found a solution for it as they are set to launch a country-wide talent hunt to discover young fast bowlers for the future. The plan was also tried many times earlier but never implemented completely. However, it’d be interesting to see what will happen this time as the fans also have many expectations from it.

Fitness Concerns for fast bowlers

Limited overs cricket doesn’t test the full ability of a team but when it comes to Tests, the most advanced and original variant of the game, it becomes very important for a team to tick all the boxes. However, the Indian cricket team always lag behind because of the lack of quality pacers. Former legendary Indian captain Kapil Dev was the last authentic fast bowler in India. His bowling prowess is legendary, and the speed of the ball was nearly on par with the requirements then in place for international fast bowling.

However, with Kapil’s retirement, India returned to their old combination of spinners and medium pacers. Since then, a lot has changed in the world of cricket. India may have gotten the pacers like Zaheer Khan and Jasprit Bumrah but they still need to find a way to produce more fast bowlers constantly.

Talking about Bumrah, the pacer is currently out of action since last year after he sustained an injury. He wasn’t even featured in the recently concluded World Test Championship (WTC) 2023 final and the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 and there are also some speculations that he won’t be taking part in the upcoming ODI World Cup 2023 as well but the speedster is working on his recovery and is expected to be back on the field soon.
