Former India cricketer Manoj Tiwari has given an outrageous suggestion to scrap India’s premier First-Class tournament, the Ranji Trophy. Since its inception in 1932, the tournament has produced world-class players from Late Bishan Singh Bedi to Rahul Dravid and many more. So far, it was canceled only once in 2020 due to COVID-19. Apart from this, almost every year has seen the tournament being played across India and the deserving players getting the India ticket.

However, it seems that one of the products of India’s Premier tournament, Manoj Tiwari doesn’t seem to be happy with some of the issues in the tournament. The ongoing season started as late as January this year. For most of history, the tournament has been played between November to February every year. Tiwari, who plays for Bengal seems to be frustrated so much that he has asked for the tournament to be scrapped.

“Ranji trophy should be scrapped from the calendar from the next season onwards. So many things going wrong in the tournament. So many things need to be looked into in order to save this prestigious tournament which has a rich history. It’s losing its charm and importance. Absolutely frustrated,” Tiwary wrote on X (formerly Twitter).

The former India cricketer also did a Facebook Live session with the fans. During the session, he revealed that his team played on the ground on the outskirts of Kerala against the home team.

During the live session, he said: “We are playing Kerala in a ground, not a stadium despite there being one built years ago, we are being asked to play in a ground on the outskirts of the State. The dressing rooms are such that you cannot even strategise properly since our dressing room and the opposite dressing room are so close to each other that you can hear what the others are saying. There is no privacy. I hope that this is looked into in the future.”

The former KKR player added that he cannot elaborate on the issues as he can’t go against the board’s Code of Conduct. “I cannot elaborate further as I am a player and the captain of a State and I have to follow the Board’s Code of Conduct. I cannot say anything publicly during the match,” he said.
