Sushmita Sen claps back at ‘Gold Digger’ accusations, talks about if she is planning to marry Lalit Modi

Indian businessman Lalit Modi, known for his role in revolutionising Indian cricket with the Indian Premier League, took everyone by surprise when he shared intimate photos of himself with former Miss Universe and Bollywood veteran actress Sushmita Sen back in July 2022. Confirming their relationship, Modi even hinted at the possibility of marriage, sparking a wave of speculation among fans and the media. 

Meanwhile, Sushmita recently opened up about her brief romance with Lalit. The actress, known for her grace and poise, shared that their relationship was “just another phase” in her life, shedding light on the fleeting nature of their connection. However, what caught the public’s attention was the unconventional way their romance unfolded. Despite the initial excitement surrounding their union, the relationship eventually came to an end, leaving both parties to pursue separate paths.

“I just put out one post on Instagram because sometimes I think when people keep quiet, their silence is mistaken for weakness or fear. I just needed to put out one post to let them know I am laughing. After that, I was done with it.” Sushmita was quoted as saying by Hindustan Times.

Sushmita also addressed the creation of memes about her and the use of the term ‘Gold digger’—a label often associated with women in relationships with wealthy individuals. Despite finding amusement in the memes, Sushmita emphasised that she doesn’t seek to monetize them. This incident highlights the unpredictability of relationships in the glittering realms of Bollywood and business, underscoring how public scrutiny can introduce an additional layer of complexity to personal matters.

“Memes bahut mast aa rahe hain. Mazza aa raha hai. But kya hai, kisi ko agar aap golddigger bulate ho toh usey monetise toh mat karo kum se kum. (I’m enjoying all the memes, but if you’re calling someone a golddigger, at least don’t monetise her). Check your facts. Mujhe gold nahi diamond pasand hain (I like diamonds, not gold). Anyway, that was another experience, another phase, and things happened. And if I was going to marry someone, I’d be married to them. I don’t try. I either do or I don’t,”
