Former legendary Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar revealed his playing XI of India for the first Test against South Africa. The former right-handed batter picked a very good side that has some of the best players in the world currently. The first test of the series is set to take place at the SuperSport Park in Centurion. The match is set to take place on the 26th of December at the Boxing Day event. The team of Gavaskar had an interesting name that came as a surprise for many.

The former Indian captain picked Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rohit Sharma as his openers. At number 3, Gavaskar picked Shubman Gill. At number 4, the former Indian captain had the reliable Virat Kohli. “My Playing XI is going to be very simple. The openers will be a [Yashasvi] Jaiswal and captain Rohit Sharma. Shubman Gill number three, number four [Virat] Kohli,” said Gavaskar.

To follow the 4 class batters are the two lower middle order batters. The former great picked KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer as his number 5 and 6. Lower to him, Sunil picked the All-rounders and genuine bowlers. “Number five KL Rahul, number six Shreyas Iyer or five and six that can move here and there,” added Gavaskar. The batting order of Gavaskar for India seems good.

Gavaskar’s bowling attack features a variety

Gavaskar surprisingly went with both the spin-bowling All-rounders of India. While Ravindra Jadeja was almost an obvious choice, the same cannot be said about Ravichandran Ashwin, who is often the scapegoat in the away tours. But Gavaskar trusted the experienced campaigner to deliver the goods and picked him for the Test XI of India against South Africa.

“After that, it will be Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin,” quoted Gavaskar. The legend of the game included three pacers in the XI. Gavaskar included Jasprit Bumrah as the leader of the attack. To assist him would be the duo of Siraj and Mukesh. All the three pacers possess different kinds of skills. And then the three fast bowlers, Mukesh Kumar, Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammad Siraj,” said Gavaskar.
