‘Streets will never forget’ – Fans praise Dhruv Jurel as he hits 90 against England to rescue India on Day Three of Ranchi Test
India wicketkeeper batter Dhruv Jurel has rescued his team against England in the ongoing fourth Test in Ranchi Test. In reply to England’s 353, the home team was reduced to 177/7 late on Day Two. Jurel and Kuldeep Yadav helped the team finish the day with 219/7. In the ongoing Day Three, they batted for more than an hour with Yadav scoring 28 off 131 balls.
They put together 76 off 202 balls before James Anderson went through the defenses of the chinaman bowler right before the drinks breaks. On the other hand, Jurel was the last wicket to fall before Lunch. With the debutant Akash Deep, the wicketkeeper batter added another 40 runs. The latter scored 90 runs and helped the team reduce England’s lead to only 46 runs.
If the Three Lions had picked the last three wickets on Day Two itself, they would have easily gotten a lead of more than 150. However, with the lead of only 46 runs, the Indian team is also in the game. At the time of writing, the European side has scored 17/0 in four overs with Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja bowling with the new ball.
Dhruv Jurel is playing in only his second Test
The former India U19 player made his debut in the Rajkot Test, the previous week, replacing KS Bharat, on whom the team management have lost their faith. On his debut, in the first innings, the UP player scored 46 and didn’t bat in the second innings. Meanwhile, in the ongoing game, apart from Yashasvi Jaiswal at the top, Jurel has been one of the shining aspects of the team.
Now, with a small lead, the Ben Stokes-led team needs another big total on the board to challenge the Indian batting. The ball has been keeping low on occasions and has started turning a bit more. However, attacking players have had success with the willow. The likes of Jaiswal and Jurel, who scored fifties have done well. Only Kuldeep, who played defensively, has had some success.
