Ashwin’s wife pens down an emotional message –
After India’s win over England, Prithi Narayan the wife of Ravichandran Ashwin got emotional. Taking to Instagram she wrote “500. We chased the dream in Hyderabad, but it didn’t happen. To Vizag, it didn’t happen. So I just brought a ton of sweets and gave it to everyone at home at 499. 500 came and went quietly”
The message turned into an emotional note as the bowler had to endure a lot after reaching the landmark. “Till it didn’t. A lot happened between 500 and 501. Longest 48 hours of our lives. But this is about the 500. And the 499 before that. What a phenomenal achievement. What a phenomenal guy. I am insanely proud of you.”
Ravichandran Ashwin is the 2nd quickest in terms of matches to reach the 500-wicket mark. Muttiah Muralitharan got to the mark in his 87th game against Australia in 2004. Glenn McGrath is taking the lead in the list when it concerns total deliveries bowled before the mark was reached.
India’s apex cricket body played a huge role in helping Ashwin reach the Rajkot stadium. On the morning of the 4th day, it was learned that the veteran bowler will rejoin the team. Ravi Shastri told the world that the Board had got Ashwin a chartered flight to make it back to the game.
“Jay Shah organized a charter to take him home and bring him back. I think that’s the kind of empathy that’s needed as well. They are the guardians of Indian cricket and with this kind of empathy, they will go a long way.”
