Sri Lanka Cricket has announced the new selection committee for their board. The entire board of SL had stepped down from their position, following the failure of the team in the ODI World Cup 2023. Soon after it, SL announced a new board of members to take them forward. But a tragedy stuck SL as their membership was halted by the Apex Board for an indefinite time.

There has been an involvement of a political body in the Sri Lankan cricket administration. Despite the revelation, the apex board has allowed SL to host bilateral series and take part in big tournaments. Sri Lanka has now appointed a new selection committee after the sacking of the previous one. In its statement, SL confirmed the fact of the appointment of new members to the committee.

“Sri Lanka Cricket wishes to announce a new ‘Cricket Selection Committee’ for a period of two years to select national teams,” wrote SLC in its statement. The contract of the board with the selection committee has been set up to the next 2 years. The further decision on the members of the board is likely to be taken later. SLC wrote that the appointment of new members and their functioning would happen with immediate effect.

“The appointment of the new committee, which comes into immediate effect, was made by the Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs, Harin Fernando,” added the statement of SLC. Later in its statement, they revealed the names of the new personnel in the post. Upul Tharanga is named the Chairman of the new selection committee. It has 4 other members, who represented Sri Lanka in the past.

The members of the committee consist of the likes of Ajantha Mendis, Indika De Saram, Tharanga Paranavitana, and Dilruwan Perera. These names were approved by the sports minister of Sri Lanka after the new board suggested their names for the posts. The first major assignment of the committee would be to select the squad for the series against Zimbabwe.
