Ahead of the ongoing ODI World Cup 2023, the 10 participating teams needed to finish in the top eight spots to qualify for the Champions Trophy 2025. As Pakistan is the host and the holder of the tournament, they were seeded as the qualified side. So far, teams such as India, South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, and Afghanistan have qualified for the tournament.

For the first time in their history, the Afghans will play in this tournament while South Africa, New Zealand, India, and Australia are former champions. Now, only two spots are left in the ‘Mini World Cup’. For the remaining spots, teams such as England, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and Netherlands are in contention for the qualification. All these teams are playing in the ongoing ODI World Cup 2023.

Champions Trophy 2025 qualification for the remaining teams

 1. England

The current ODI and T20 World Cup holders are ruled out of the semis race of the 2023 edition. After losing six games, their chances were gone. They had two games left against the likes of the Netherlands and Pakistan. Against the Dutch side, the Three Lions won by 160 runs to improve their NRR. At this point, they are placed in seventh place with a superior NRR (-0.885) than the likes of Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and the Netherlands. If the Three Lions win against Pakistan, they will finish seventh with six points. This will mean that the two-time runner-up in CT will play the tournament in Pakistan.

2. Bangladesh

The Tigers started their tournament with a win against Afghanistan. After this, they went on to lose six games on the trot. In their last game against Sri Lanka, they managed to win by three wickets to keep themselves alive for the qualification barely. Now, thanks to their poor NRR (-1-142), they not only need to win against the mighty Australia but also by a massive margin.

3. Sri Lanka

The 1996 ODI World Cup winners and joint winners with India in 2002 are set to miss out on the tournament for the first time. Their nine games of the ongoing tournament are finished and they have managed only two wins. Apart from this, their poor NRR (-1.419) means that they need Australia to beat Bangladesh so badly that the 2017 semifinalists to slip at ninth position.

4. Netherlands

The Dutch are in the last spot and have only one game left, i.e. against table-toppers India, who are yet to lose a game. The European side not only needs to win but win by an unimaginable margin against the former champions of CT, T20, and ODI World Cups. This doesn’t look realistic.
