New Zealand’s skipper, Tom Latham, tried deploying his main bowling weapons, but the Kangaroos showed no mercy. It was the introduction of Glenn Phillips that finally brought a change in the proceedings. Phillips managed to dismiss the dangerous trio of Warner, Head, and Steve Smith within the span of 10 overs. Following Phillips’ spell, Mitchell Santner took centre stage, claiming the wickets of Mitchell Marsh and Marnus Labuschagne within just three overs. Australia, once poised to score around 450 runs, managed to reach 388 thanks in large part to a cameo from skipper Pat Cummins. New Zealand‘s fielding woes, with approximately four dropped catches, proved to be costly for the Black Caps.
