Pakistan have completed their whitewash of Afghanistan in the three-game ODI series in Sri Lanka. Pakistan won the first game against Afghanistan by a mammoth margin of 142 runs as the minnows were bowled out for 59 runs. In the second game, the Afghans showed much better intent but ended up losing the game by one wicket. The game included a controversial ‘Mankad’ dismissal of Shadab Khan. Following the competitive spirit of the close encounter, Samaa News reports that Afghan bowler Fareed Ahmad used abusive language towards Pakistan skipper Babar Azam and star batter Imam-ul-Haq.

“Afghanistan bowler Fareed Ahmad abused Babar Azam and Imam Ul Haq at the end of the second ODI. Afghanistan’s coaches, Rashid Khan and Mohammad Nabi then apologized to Babar. Shaheen Afridi was also furious after the Shadab Khan ‘mankad’ dismissal, but the team management calmed him down. Fareed is the same bowler who had a heated exchange with Asif Ali in the T20 World Cup,” popular Pakistani sports journalist Farid Khan declared on Twitter based on reports of Samaa News.

Fareed Ahmad is not the first Afghan player to misbehave

This is not the first time in recent times an Afghan player has misbehaved on the field. Earlier during the Indian Premier League 2023, pacer Naveen-ul-Haq was involved in a heated exchange with Virat Kohli. Although it stemmed out of the age-old Gautam Gambhir-Virat Kohli rivalry, it was pretty needless for the young Afghanistan spinner to get involved. Now Fareed Ahmad follows in similar footsteps after his use of obscene language on the field.

Notably, this three-match ODI series was held as a preparatory series ahead of the Asia Cup 2023 which is slated to take place in Sri Lanka. Not only did the two teams have preparatory matches in the same format, but they also got hold of the conditions in the Island nation ahead of the game. The continental competition will take place in a hybrid model, co-hosted by Pakistan and Sri Lanka. Pakistan only hosts four games; the majority of the tournament will take place in the Island nation.
