Son of soldier, life filled with struggles, Dhruv Jurel’s story can inspire youngsters

Dhruv Jurel made his Test debut against England in Rajkot. His journey from being under difficulties to making it to the Indian team can inspire anyone. His father is a retired army officer who served the country during the Kargil War in 1999. After the youngster got to make his debut, Jurel Sr spoke about his son’s achievement. He expressed happiness about his son. 

The father of Rajasthan Royals batter felt it to be a dream. Jurel Sr claimed that he does not know how to thank god and people. The army veteran said he asked Jurel to stay grounded more than ever. “It is a dream for us. We don’t know how to thank people and God. The other day, I spoke to Dhruv and told him to be more grounded than before,” Dhruv’s father said in the interview. 

When Dhruv had to buy a cricket bat which cost about INR 800, his mother had to pawn her only golden chain. Jurel Sr recalled those moments and felt happy that his son had a successful career. The former soldier also claimed that he wanted Jurel to be a soldier, just like him. But the fact that Jurel’s love for cricket was unparalleled forced them to help him pursue his career.

Jurel Sr claimed that no one in his family previously played cricket. The motive of everyone was to earn a good job. He revealed the fears of a father and claimed his son to be not good at studies. “No one from my family has played cricket. Everyone who saw him bat said, ‘ladka achha hai, aap ise cricket mein daalo’,” said Jurel’s father in the interview. 

“But I’m a father and was worried about his future too. Cricket nahi hua toh kya hoga (what if he didn’t make it big in cricket)? Dhruv was not that good in studies either,” added Jurel’s father in his statement. Jurel scored 46 runs in the first innings of the Test against England in Rajkot and impressed the fans.
