Shubman Gill picks surprising name as his favorite cricketer of all time
Star Indian batter Shubman Gill was recently asked to name his favourite cricketer. Surprisingly the 24-year-old did not name Rohit Sharma or Virat Kohli as his favorite cricket star.
Shubman Gill will be next seen during India’s tour of South Africa starting on the 10th of December. The right-handed batter has been named in the ODI and Test match squads while being rested for the T20I series.
Shubman Gill names his cricketing idol
Indian opener Shubman Gill was asked to name his favourite cricket star. The 24-year-old named Sachin Tendulkar as his favourite idol and cited him as a reason to play cricket. These comments were made during an interaction at an event.
Shubman Gill said, “That’s a very tough one, I would say, for me, Sachin Sir because he is the reason I started playing cricket. So I would say Sachin sir”. There have been rumours of Shubman Gill dating Sachin Tendulkar’s daughter Sara Tendulkar.
Aakash Chopra opines on the comparison between Ruturaj Gaikwad and Shubman Gill
Apart from this, former India opener Aakash Chopra recently spoke highly of Ruturaj Gaikwad after his tremendous batting performance. The 26-year-old scored the most runs for any batter in a T20I series against Australia.
Aakash Chopra said “Ruturaj is going to have stiff competition because Shubman Gill also plays similarly. So you will feel that you aren’t able to pick two among the three. So these runs were necessary as they put him in the conversation”
According to the former India star “Even though Shubman has burst ahead in the ODI and Test formats, in T20’s, both batters bring the same thing to the table”. Shubman Gill was rested for the recent T20 series against Australia and will miss the series against South Africa.
Ruturaj Gaikwad has been named for all three formats of the game. The 26-year-old is yet to make his test debut with Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal set to bat at the top. Meanwhile, the number three spot has been given to Shubman Gill who has replaced Cheteshwar Pujara.
The next big event is the T20 World Cup 2024, while addressing the event Aakash Chopra made a huge claim. “Keep scoring runs so that you are part of the squad when the World Cup comes. From his point of view, he must remain part of the squad. It might be a direct shoot-out between him and Gill”
