Former Pakistan pace bowler Shoaib Akhtar was known for his heady battles with the Indian batters. On Friday just one day before the ODI World Cup 2023 clash between the two teams, Rawalpindi Express struck again.
India and Pakistan will go head to head for the 8th time in the ODI World Cup tournament. The match is set to be played on Saturday at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The game is already a huge sell-out with a capacity crowd expected to watch the game.
Rohit Sharma and Babar Azam will have a chance to win their third game of the tournament. New Zealand are sitting pretty at the top of the table after winning their third game against Bangladesh on Friday in Chennai.
Shoaib Akhtar posts cryptic tweet and deletes it later –
Former Pakistan pacer Shoaib Akhtar took to Twitter and wrote “History shall repeat itself tomorrow #thandrakh”. This was later deleted by the 47-year-old leaving the fans confused.
Shoaib Akhtar had posted a picture of himself celebrating a wicket during the 2011 ODI World Cup. The fans began speculating what the former bowler meant as it turned into a full-blown social media debate.
Pakistan has so far played in Hyderabad as the sole venue with both their Warm-Up games and World Cup games being hosted. For the first time, Pakistan will be playing in the biggest cricket stadium in the World.
The Indian team has won both their games so far and Rohit Sharma will want the trend to continue. India began their ODI World Cup 2023 campaign with a game last Sunday in Chennai versus Australia. The result was a six-wicket India win thanks to 97 not out from KL Rahul and 85 from Virat Kohli.
In the next game, Afghanistan posted 272 on the board from their 50 overs. Rohit Sharma then went after the opposition bowling to score 131 runs from just 84 balls. The Indian skipper scored his 7th World Cup ton the most for any player. The 36-year-old also went past Chris Gayle’s 554 sixes record to become the highest six hitter in international cricket history.
For Pakistan Babar Azam will be looking to fire after Abdullah Shafique and Mohammad Rizwan scored centuries. The two players’ timely centuries helped Pakistan chase down the 345-run target and win the game with ease in Hyderabad.
