Multan Sultans won their third game on a trot in the PSL 2024. A good bowling performance in the middle overs phase and a brilliant finishing by Iftikhar Ahmed with some handy runs by Mohammad Rizwan helped the home side to entertain their fans with yet another victory. Lahore were good in patches but could not turn up as a team. They suffered yet another loss in the ongoing league.

Batting first, Lahore Qalandars posted 166 runs on the board. They lost the wicket of Sahibzada Farhan early. What followed was anchoring the innings by Fakhar Zaman. In an unusual way, the Southpaw could not get going and ended up scoring 41(36). Batters from the other end tried to compensate for his slow knock. Rassie Van Der Dussen scored 54(37).

Sikandar Raza hit 23(17). Some crucial cameos from Jahandad Khan and Carlos Brathwaite towards the end propelled Sultans to a good total of 166 runs on the board. Mohammad Ali and Usama Mir had yet another good outing where they picked wickets and were economical as well. Chasing 167, Sultans were under pressure straight away, thanks to the new ball spell of the opening duo.

Shaheen Afridi and Zaman Khan were on fire. The skipper got the big wicket of Reeza Hendricks and Khan dismissed Dawid Malan for a golden duck. George Linde later dismissed Yasir Khan. The onus was on Mohammad Rizwan to take his side home. He did everything in his might to see off the run chase. Sultans made a surprising move of sending David Willey up the order.

Rizwan almost waged a lone war during his stay in the middle. The star batter scored 82 runs in 59 balls which included nine fours and three sixes. While Willey’s wicket did shake the confidence of the dressing room of the home side, Iftikhar Ahmed pulled off a good finish to the chase. His cameo down the order helped Sultans to register a hat trick of wins in the PSL 2024.
