Bollywood veteran actor Sunny Deol took the Indian film industry into the storm after his recently released action-thriller Gadar 2 created havoc at the box office with record-breaking earnings in its first weekend. Interestingly, no one expected that the movie will do this much business in its initial days of release as Akshay Kumar starrer OMG 2 also got released on the same day.

Meanwhile, fans are speculating that Gadar 2 has the potential to break Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathaan records at the box office. Pathaan remains the highest-earning Indian movie of the current year so far. According to some reports, it earned more than INR 1000 crores when it comes to worldwide gross collection.

However, talking about Gadar 2, it has already earned around INR 230 crores as of August 15 and it is expected that it will surpass the 300 crore mark before its second weekend. It won’t be surprising to see if the movie surpasses Pathaan records in the coming weeks. However, it would be difficult for Gadar 2 to beat Pathaan records in the overseas market.

Shah Rukh Khan’s ‘Jawan’ will release on September 7

But, talking about the Indian market, it really has the potential to become India’s highest-grossing film of the year. Pathaan collected around INR 650 crores in India as of April 6 which is almost more than 3 months’ collection as the movie was released on January 25. On the other hand, Gadar 2 is already heading towards crossing the 300 crores mark in its only second weekend.

However, things won’t be easy for Gadar 2 in the upcoming days as Shah Rukh’s 2nd movie of the year Jawan is set to be released on September 7 and the hype is bigger than what it was for Pathaan. But whatever happens in future, it is good for the Indian film industry as after the pandemic, the Indian cinema was almost dead as no one was interested to watch the Hindi movies at the theatres but the movies like Gadar 2 and Pathaan has revived the craze.
