‘Sahi me, Khaao maa kasam’ – Fans react as Shubman Gill likely to replace Hardik Pandya as Gujarat Titans’ captain

Gujarat Titans’ prominent all-rounder and captain, Hardik Pandya, known for leading the team to consecutive finals in the last two Indian Premier League seasons, is said to have been traded to Mumbai Indians in a deal involving cash. The Titans, established before the 2022 season, clinched the IPL title in their debut season.

With Hardik’s imminent move to Mumbai Indians, the question of selecting the next captain looms large for Gujarat Titans. Several candidates, including Kane Williamson, Rashid Khan, and Shubman Gill, are emerging as frontrunners in the captaincy race.

According to reports from sports firm Rev Sportz, there is a strong likelihood that Gill will be appointed as the next captain for GT. This has surprised fans, given Gill’s lack of experience in leading any team in the past. Some fans are expressing shock and recommending that GT management leverage Williamson’s experience by making him the captain instead.

Rashid Khan can also be considered as the next captain for GT

On the contrary, there are supporters of this report who believe that Gill, being the future captain of the Indian team, would benefit from the opportunity to lead a team like GT in the IPL. They argue that this experience will contribute to his leadership development, considering him as the next prominent figure in Indian cricket. Gill has demonstrated rapid maturity as a batter and, with many years ahead in his cricket career, could potentially serve GT for an extended period.

Alternatively, Rashid is another viable candidate for the captaincy role. With prior experience leading Afghanistan and contributing to MI Emirates’ triumph in the ILT20, he brings leadership expertise to the table. Nevertheless, only time will unveil the decision of the GT management and reveal who they will ultimately choose as their next captain.
