Sachin Tendulkar set to be recognised as ‘National icon’ of India’s Election Commission

It won’t be wrong to say that former Indian legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar is one of the greatest players in the history of cricket. Sachin’s humongous records in the game speak volumes of his legendary career. The right-hander has been an inspiration for many modern-day greats like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma

It’s been already 10 years since Tendulkar took retirement from the game but his popularity didn’t get affected as he is still loved by millions of fans around the world. And now he is set to be recognized as a national icon by the Election Commission of India (EC). He will be receiving the order as he always encourages people to vote.

“This collaboration would mark a significant step towards leveraging Tendulkar’s unparalleled impact with the youth for increasing voters’ participation in the forthcoming elections, especially in general elections (to Lok Sabha), 2024,” a statement of EC was quoted as saying by CricTracker.

Many stars have been designated as EC’s national icon earlier as well. Bollywood actor Pankaj Tripathi was recognized as the EC’s national icon in 2022. Furthermore, Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan, former Indian legendary skipper MS Dhoni, and India’s Olympic medalist in Boxing Mary Kom were the national icons for the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. 

Talking about Tendulkar’s cricket career, he has played 200 Test matches in which he scored 15921 runs at an impressive average of 53.78 which included 68 half-centuries and 51 centuries. Coming to his ODI career, he played 463 matches and scored 18426 at an average of 44.83. During this, he smashed 96 fifties and 49 hundreds. He is also the first batter to score a double hundred in the 50-over format. Apart from this, he is the only cricketer with 100 international centuries.
